Lyrics to songs written by Peter Calvin Ansley
1. "The Way That She Loves Me"
by Pete Ansley
(Because we've all dated a nut before and the
girl I wrote this about had a special tree!)
Make a little more money
in a little less time
cause the more you got honey
the more you'll be mine,
mine, mine, mine, mine.
That's the way that she loves me,
the way that she loves me,
the way that she loves me.
That's the way that she loves me.
Talk a little bit smoother.
Get a new set of wheels
cause the more you got baby
the more I will feel.
Eel.
That's the way that she loves me,
the way that she loves me,
the way that she loves me.
That's the way that she loves me.
Can you believe what you will take
to keep love goin'?
But I'm beginning to believe,
Baby it's not love that you're showin'.
Walk a little bit slower.
Dress a little more fine.
Throw out the cola
'cause we're gonna need wine.
Whine, whine, whine, whine!
That's the way that she loves me,
the way that she loves me,
the way that she loves me.
That's the way that she loves me.

2. "Who Knows Why"
By Peter Calvin Ansley
There was a time when we were friends
The dreams were shared, would never end
We were as close as close can be
Close to you was close to me
and who knows why.
We toyed with love, but never dared
to risk the friendship that we shared
as safe a pair as pairs can be
Paired with you was paired with me
and who knows why
People change like seasons do.
Whatever season you went through
at first a week, a month or two
and all was quiet. I was blue
But springtime greens in fall go brown
bright candles burn till they go down
till the light's gone as gone can be
gone from you, you're gone from me
and who knows why?

3."A Lover's Song " by Peter Ansley
I wrote this for Crystal Gayle and it was ultimately recorded by Tanya Gayle. What are the odds? The last verse and chorus variation are new inspired by recent emotions.
We haven't come
so far from
the lonely way we were.
All I might have known
swirls to color,
then it blurs,
then it's gone.
I have had these feelings before
crumbling like castles into sand.
Only this light that you can bring,
can bring my soul to sing,
sing a lover's song again.
Yes I have known
other loves
before you came along.
You changed my mind
just when my heart
had closed it's doors
and turned to stone.
I have had these feelings before
crumbling like castles into sand.
Only this joy that you can bring,
can bring my soul to sing,
sing a lover's song again.
You have the words,
the ones I trust,
that fit my melody.
Write them on my heart
and make a song
that lovers sing
of you and me.
I have had these feelings before
crumbling like castles into sand.
Only the words that you can bring,
can bring my soul to sing,
sing a lover's song again.

4. "WASTED TIME" ©1985 PETER CALVIN ANSLEY
THOUGH WE'VE COME THIS FAR,
YOU SEEM SO SURE THAT WHERE WE ARE
IS AS FAR AS IT WILL GO.
THERE'S NO TOMORROW THAT YOU'LL SOW.
SO THIS IS WHERE IT ENDS,
FORGET THE JOY, BRING OUT THE SINS
THAT WE COULD OVERLOOK BEFORE.
THERE'S NO FORGIVING ANYMORE.
IT WAS WASTED TIME,
SO YOU'D HAVE ME BELIEVE,
BUT THATS A LIE.
THAT I NEVER COULD CONCEIVE
YOU'D EVER SAY TO ME.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THEN?
WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN...
YOU FINALLY FACE THE TRUTH.
YOU GAVE TO ME, I GAVE TO YOU,
THERE WAS A LOT OF GIVING THEN.
NOW YOU'RE JUST GIVING UP AGAIN.

5. " It's Been a Long Day"
1982 by Peter C. Ansley
( Tired and at home after work and getting over a bad love )
Drive down a dark dusty road
turn on the air;
the radio sings "Homeward Bound".
There're some streetlights in the distance.
You can watch the drive in movie
from the road I travel down.
Well it's been a long day
and Ive come along way
since we said, "Goodbye."
Now and then there is a time
thoughts of you run through my mind
but there's no question why I did what I did.
It was the best thing to do
so life can go on now without you.
I walk into the door,
sit down on the floor,
lean back against the chair.
Light up a smoke,
let go of a sigh,
and find some comfort there.
'Cause it's been a long day
and Ive come along way
since we said, "Goodbye."
Now and then there is a time
thoughts of you run through my mind
but there's no question why I did what I did.
It was the right thing to do
so life can go on now without you.
Well, I crawl into bed.
I snuggle neath the sheets
and hear the crickets sing.
I remember for a moment,
fluff my pillow,
lay my head,
and dream of other things.
Yes it's been a long day
but Ive come along way
since we said, "Goodbye."

6. "One Step Away"
1981 by Peter C. Ansley
( About relationships where one can't make up their mind )
Think it over.
Will you come close to me
or keep yourself just one step away
hoping I'll stay
should you change your mind?
'Cause you were moving
like a ship lost out at sea
or running round in circles in the bay
still miles away
from the port you longed to find.
That's when you came to me
and I did all I could.
Then you promised me
that your word was good
when you said you would be true.
Now your sail is up
but mine is down
and I'm afraid I'll lose you.
Looking back now.
Have I ever let you down
or promised you things I would never give,
not letting you live
the dreams you longed to try
So it stays.
Here I am and there you are.
But you keep yourself just one step away
hoping I'll stay
should you change your mind.

7. "Hearts in Harmony"
1982 by Peter C. Ansley
( Just wanted a happy song )
Music comes to me
through all those things you do.
I find the melody
to my song of love in you.
Still I've got so much to learn
till we both can be free
to sing with our hearts
in harmony.
God only knows
how this feeling fills my heart
and love only shows
that it's with you the feeling starts.
Still I've got so much to learn
till we both can be free
to sing with our hearts in harmony.
In harmony.

8. "Streetlight"
©1976 by Peter C. Ansley
( Winter and some idea like "A Christmas Carol" made me think 1880s gaslights and a cold guy down on his luck )
BURN SOFTLY SILENT STREETLIGHT.
LOVE TO WATCH YOUR CANDLE DANCING
ON THESE FRIGID NIGHTS.
CAN I STAND BESIDE YOU AND WARM MY HANDS.
YOUR AS GOOD AS GOLD MY OLD, OLD FRIEND.
BURN SLOWLY SILENT STREETLIGHT.
IT'S BEEN ANOTHER COLD AND HUNGRY
WINTER'S NIGHT.
FOR THE SAKE OF ME, GIVE ME WARMTH IN YOU
WHEN OCTOBER FINDS ME I KNOW YOU WILL COME THROUGH.
I SEE YOU FLICKER, SEE YOU SPARK.
YOU CAST A NARROW RAY
AND SPLIT THE DARK.
BECAUSE IT'S LATE
AND I'M ALONE.
TAKE ME HOME.
LIGHT MY WAY.

9. I'll Come Back to you
©1977 by Peter C. Ansley
( Recorded at Country Roads Studios 1978. All about summer love at Miami Beach. It had to turn into a song!)
A veil draped between here and the long ago
cannot keep me from the love I knew.
Heaven couldn't hold a better feeling, no,
than being next to you.
What do you do
to make me feel there's notihing else that I can do
but fall for you?
A window to a dark and quiet shore.
I gaze into the night that was
and I remember then
I knew that it would end too soon.
I would be leaving you.
What do you do
to make me feel
there's nothing else that I can do
but fall for you?
Why do you never seem to fall in love
with a girl that you can hold?
You're hoping that she'll wait forever
but it's so hard to let go.
But I'll come back to you.
Funny, is the way to say I feel right now.
With lots of empty plans to fill.
I wish that I could hold you
near enough to know my heart
and how it cries for you.
And only you can make me feel
there's nothing else that I can do
but fall for you.
Why do you never seem to fall in love
with a girl that you can hold?
You're hoping that she'll wait forever
but it's so hard to let go.
But I'll come back to you.

10. "SWEET WATER"
©1979 BY PETER C. ANSLEY
( Got rained on riding my motorbike and thought about the water cycle. Pop remembered that I ran in the house and said, "I can't talk, I've got a song in my head." I grabbed a guitar, pencil and paper, sat down on the front porch and wrote it all in 4 or 5 minutes. It was the first time he saw me literally take a completed song, melody and lyrics, out of nowhere, and put it on paper. He told that story many times before he died)
HEAR THE RAIN DROP'S FINAL CRY
AS HE GOES DOWN
INTO THE SPONGE LIKE EARTH BENEATH MY FEET.
ANXIOUSLY AWAITING
WHAT MIGHT LIE AHEAD.
IT'S A FUTURE FILLED WITH VAST UNCERTAINTY.
HEAR THE RIVER SING HIS SONG
AS HE GOES DOWN
INTO THE GOLDEN VALLEY FAR BELOW.
HE PRAYS THE SUN WON'T BURN TOO HOT
AND STOP HIM SHORT.
HE WANTS TO TASTE THE GULF OF MEXICO.
OH SWEET WATER WHERE YOU GOIN'?
OH SWEET WATER WHERE YOU'VE BEEN?
YOU TASTE SO SWEET AND YOU COOL MY FEET.
NO I DON'T MIND IF RAIN COMES ROUND AGAIN.
WIND BRINGS ME THE SMELL OF SUMMER'S COMING RAIN.
SKY TELLS ME IT'S BOUND TO FALL ALL DAY.
SOMETIMES I WISH I ROLLED ALONG
JUST LIKE THAT RIVER
AND COOLED SOMEBODY'S FEET ALONG THE WAY.
TOUCH THEIR LIPS
SO I COULD HEAR THEM SAY,
"AHHHH".

11. "If There's a Way to Fall Out of Love"
© 1979 BY PETER C. ANSLEY
( At a TV station in Asheville on a mountainside watching the sun come up over the city below )
Sunrise sits on a gray tile roof and asks no company.
Purple haze paints a cloudy maze that will not set me free.
I never thought I'd see the day I'd be tangled helplessly.
If ther's a way that you can fall out of love
then won't you tell me?
Sunrise crawls above the smoke filled crowded city streets.
A stroller looks up to the sky but a shadow's all he sees.
I never thought I'd see the day I'd be tangled helplessly.
If ther's a way that you can fall out of love
then won't you tell me?
Ivy climbs an old stone wall and clings eternally.
If I could reach you I could hold you but will it ever be?
I never thought I'd see the day I'd be tangled helplessly.
If ther's a way that you can fall out of love
then won't you tell me?

12. "Written for You" ©1976 BY PETER C. ANSLEY
( Remembering another summer love )
I just saw your picture in the album
and I wonder if you still look the same.
It brought back some memories of good times.
So young to have such good old days.
I just read some of your old letters
and I wonder who's really to blame.
Young love so intense it made little sense
but it was our love all the same.
So I'm still writing my songs of love
and of dreams that never came true.
I wonder if you would ever know
I wrote them all for you.

13. "ANOTHER TIME"
©1977 PETER CALVIN ANSLEY
( This one got me in the door of the largest music publishing company in the world)
ANOTHER TIME,
ANOTHER PLACE.
ANOTHER LOVER WEARS ANOTHER FACE;
SHE HAS A HEART SHE WANTS TO SHARE
FEELINGS THAT I ONCE
WAS SO AFRAID TO BEAR.
NOT LONG AGO
ANOTHER DAY;
WAS JUST ANOTHER PATH THAT WENT SOME LONELY WAY.
WITHOUT A HPE THAT LOVE WOULD GROW.
IF I LOOKED IN HER EYES,
HOW WOULD I KNOW?
FEEL IT AS IT TAKES YOU.
FEEL IT AS IT MAKES YOU
WANT HER LOVE
FOREVER, FOR YOUR OWN.
ANOTHER WORD,
ANOTHER LINE.
I SPIN MY POEM FILLED WITH LOVER'S LINES.
THEN IT'S A SONG FOR ME TO SING.
AS I LAY IN THE LOVE
THAT MY LOVED ONE BRINGS TO ME.
AS I LAY IN THE LOVE
THAT MY LOVED ONE BRINGS
TO ME.

14. "I FALL TOO EASILY"
©1978 BY PETER CALVIN ANSLEY
( Thanks to Harvey Lasker's ties with Warner Bros Records, I made a little money with this one and after 30 years it's still mine. Here people share their lost love stories and get attracted to each other)
WORDS
TRADED IN CONFIDENCE.
A VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCE.
I FALL TOO EASILY.
FEELINGS,
CREEPING LIKE A VINE
UP THIS YOUNG HEART OF MINE.
I FALL TOO EASILY.
I HEAR A LOT ABOUT THE JOY.
BUT FEEL A LOT OF PAIN.
NEVER ONE TO SECOND GUESS A CHANCE,
TO FALL FOR LOVE AGAIN
LIFE,
SOMETIMES YOU'RE BURNING FAST.
A STAR THAT CANNOT LAST.
YOU FALL SO EASILY.
LOVE,
WITH TALK OF BROKEN HEARTS
HOW SOON AGAIN IT STARTS.
I FALL TOO EASILY.

15. "So it Seems"
©1977 words by Peter C. Ansley, music by Timothy J. Terrier
(Recorded and released by the FNRA band in 1978 with Johnny Hendren and Tim Terrier at Toybox Studio in Nashville. Wrote this one to Tim's music. More crafted than inspired.)
You never had to say it.
Your eyes gave you away.
There's no hope of love at all.
and so you said today.
You spoke the words so easily.
You're voice had shown no strain.
Wasn't hard for me to see
You didn't feel the same.
Well I had hoped that you would love me
but I guess that dreams aren't true.
For mine were of my life ahead.
The days I'd spend with you.
Maybe if I closed my eyes
I could make this a bad dream.
But you said "It's no use it's over."
All I can say is, "So it seems".
Well I had hoped that you woould love me
but I guess that dreams aren't true.
For mine were of my life ahead.
The days I'd spend with you.
The days I'd spend wanting you.
The days I'd spend holding you.
The days I'd spend loving you.

16. "One Step Behind"
©1977 BY PETER C. ANSLEY
( Recorded at Country Roads Studios 1977. At the time confused about my accidental career )
I never stop asking myself
about things that keep puzzling my mind.
I'm always just one step behind.
The paths that I follow are worn
by steps taken so carefully.
I don't know how I came this far
so aimlessly.
Can you tell me the reason behind this mystery?
Is there something you're keeping from me?
Do I dare discover it at all?
I wonder about chances gone by.
I count all the times on my hands.
Some things I just can't understand.
I've wasted some time just by thinking,
from having too much on my hands.
Now it just slips through my fingers,
like so many sands.
Can you tell me the reason behind this mystery?
Is there something you're keeping from me?
Do I dare discover it at all?
I land on the place where I fall.
I stand up and do what I dare,
distracted by maps to nowhere.
The road that I wanted is gone.
Directions taken from the blind.
I don't always know why I go.
I don't always mind.
Can you tell me the reason behind this mystery?
Is there something you're keeping from me?
Do I dare discover it at all?
I never stop asking myself
about things that keep puzzling my mind.
I'm always just one step behind.
One step behind.

17. "Not for the World"
by Peter Ansley
(When someone tries to make you into a cusomized lover, you have to say, "maybe it's not me that is the problem")
I wasn't born to be somebody else,
was meant to be just what I am.
If your mind is set on changing me
well, you must understand,
Only so many shoes that I can fill
so few plans that I can keep.
Too many nights I saw my dreams go down
and cried myself to sleep.
Never again. Not for the world.
Never again. Not for the world.
All that you see is all I am,
no surprises underneath.
If it's mystery you're looking for
your not looking for me
Only show you one thing at a time
Still so much here left to bloom
and if you're moving in to dig me up
well I just don't have the room
for you.
Not for the world.
Never again. Not for the world.

18. "Just the Way the Story Goes"
Peter C. Ansley
You made me happy
for a while
And all the times
and all the things we shared,
we always shared.
You always made me smile.
One of us in love
the other one indifferent.
Sometimes
that's just the way the story goes.
You gave me dreams
for a while
and all the words you said to me,
you said so much to me
that made me smile.
But one of us in love
the other one indifferent.
Sometimes
that's just the way the story goes.

19. "TIME FOR YOU TO GO"
By Peter Ansley
THE LIGHT IN YOUR EYES HAS GROWN DIM
AND THE FIRE THAT USED TO BURN,
GONE LIKE THE WIND.
YOU STILL TRY TO SAY YOU LOVE ME
BUT YOUR WORDS FALL LIKE A STONE.
YOU'RE JUST WAITING FOR THE RIGHT TIME TO TELL ME,
IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GO.
THE WARMTH OF YOUR TOUCH HAS GROWN COLD;
THERE'S NO FEELING IN THE BODY THAT I HOLD.
YOU TALK ABOUT OUR GOOD TIMES
BUT YOUR WORDS CUT TO THE BONE.
YOU'RE JUST WAITING FOR THE RIGHT TIME TO TELL ME,
IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GO,
THE DAY I SAID "I LOVE YOU",
HEART AND SOUL IT WAS THE TRUTH
BUT MY EYES HAVE SEEN YOUR EYES ENOUGH TO KNOW
WHO THAT WAS, JUST ISN'T YOU.
THE MEMORIES WE MADE ARE ALL THERE IS.
I DO NOT TASTE TOMORROW WHEN WE KISS.
WE BUILD OUR SEPARATE DREAMS
LIKE SEPARATE PEOPLE THAT WE KNOW.
YOU'RE JUST WAITING FOR THE RIGHT TIME TO TELL ME,
IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GO,
DO YOU THINK THAT THIS IS EASY?
I WATCH YOU TRY TO PLEASE.
BUT MY EYES HAVE SEEN YOUR EYES ENOUGH
TO KNOW YOU LIE, WHEN YOU LOVE ME
THE DAY THAT I WAKE AND YOU ARE GONE
WON'T BE THE SADDEST DAY I'VE EVER KNOWN.
IT WAS THAT DAY I SAID "I LOVE YOU",
AND, DEAR LORD, HOW OUR LOVE SHOWED;
I SWEAR, I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE THE ONE TO TELL YOU,
"IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GO."

20. "You Left Me Here"
1984 by Peter C. Ansley
I wasn't looking for an easy way
to say what's on my mind
was gonna take my time
getting close to you.
It never struck me you would not stay
thought you would be mine.
Don't you see I needed time
to say how I was feeling bout you
But you left me here.
You left me here
and you never saw the lovin'
that I was only hidin'
for you.
You left me here
and I don't know where you're bound.
But I'll keep the fire burning
should you come around.
I walk the city streets and alley ways.
I do it every day.
Can't just sit and wait,
do what I have to do.
And I've done some thinking,
I needed to,
about the way I feel for you.
You see I needed time
and now I'm only waiting for you.
But you left me here.
You left me here
and you never sawthe lovin'
that I was only hidin'
for you.
You left me here
and I don't know where you're bound.
But I'll keep the fire burning
should you come around.

21. "Golddigger"
1983 by Peter C. Ansley
She walks into the room
like there was nothing going on
before she came.
She moves from man to man
like she was doing them a favor.
She is game.
He casts his eyes upon her
and gets taken by her smile.
She says, "I'll love you dearly
if you make it worth my while."
Golddigger!
The bait is out for you.
Golddigger!
They've got their hooks out too.
She's got a look that you would kill for
but it's going to cost you.
He walks so smooth down the street,
smiles at everyone he meets.
He's turning heads.
He knows all the moves.
They run their fingers through his hair
but he wants bread.
He casts his eyes upon her
she gets taken by his style.
He says, "I'll love you dearly
if you make it worth my while."
Golddigger!
The bait is out for you.
Golddigger!
They've got their hooks out too.
He's got a look that you would kill for
but it's going to cost you.
They've got a look that you would kill for
but it's going to cost you.

22. "Not Going to be a Lonely Man Tonight"
1982 by Peter C. Ansley
Every good boy needs a lady;
someone who will be good to you.
I walk in a bar with a hungry heart
just looking for someone to talk to.
But they've got their ideals and their prior commitments,
the brush-off cuts like a knife.
"Say I'm new in town. Can I buy you a drink?"
"No I'm waiting for some other guy.
Besides, you know,
you don't really look my type."
Now I can't change the way it is
and it may not be right.
Even if it costs me a million
I'm not gonna be a lonely man tonight.
Well I've been decent.
I've been so good
I ain't been playing games.
All I wanted was someone to love me
but nobody's giving me names.
They travel in groups
they're out looking for princes
a regular guy won't do.
You know they can't always do
a whole lot better than you.
Now I can't change the way it is
and it may not be right.
Even if it costs me a million
I'm not gonna be a lonely man tonight.
They say we're all looking for the same thing,
someone to treat you right.
They say that women out number the men
but where do they go?
Where do they go?
Now I can't change the way it is
and it may not be right.
Even if it costs me a million
I'm not gonna be a lonely man tonight.

23. Scars
by Peter C.Ansley 1981, 2011
Yes he really thought this time
she might have grown to know the man.
But I guess all she knew
was his name.
He would look into her eyes and call her friend
thinking the means would justify the end.
He was sure it just takes time for one to care.
How long in time just wasn't clear.
He was high; he was low;
he was anywhere his heart told him to go.
He was easy but he tried too hard.
And he came to her to heal but he only showed his scars
He shared his dreams but she did not understand.
Asked her for things she gave not on demand.
He was hoping he was just one step behind
but he was really running blind.
He was high; he was low;
he was anywhere his heart told him to go.
He was easy but he tried too hard.
And he came to her to heal but he only showed his scars
He dove right in to drown in eyes of blue;
Longed for a heart she never really knew.
He saw a face and dreams they would begin
but imagination did him in
He was high; he was low;
he was anywhere his heart told him to go.
He was easy but he tried too hard.
And he came to her to heal but he only showed his scars
It’s a simple thing to understand now
though I'm not the intelligent kind
I just wish that you could change a heart
as easily as change your mind.
He was high; he was low;
he was anywhere his heart told him to go.
He was easy but he tried too hard.
And he came to her to heal but he only showed his scars.
Yes he really thought this time
she might have grown to know the man.
But I guess all she knew
was my name.

24. "When I Sing My Songs"
1984 by Peter C. Ansley
( After writing a few hundred songs you start to wonder )
Words. Is that all there is?
Words all I have to give.
Do they mean anything?
Do they rhyme?
Do they ring?
Those words.
Lines. Is that all I write?
Lines so late in the night.
Do they help to explain
or just confuse you
once again?
Those lines.
Songs. Is that all I sing ?
Just songs. Don't they mean anything?
Do they linger in your mind
with all the words
and all the lines
in my songs.
When you hear my songs.
From Neireh Maria, Writer, Poet, Linguist:
"Words and songs... what's the connection to them?? I've been asking for it for a long time and so I discovered by real experiences that each word on the world has one song...
It's a masterpiece, dear Peter!! You're a brilliant writer! Lov u!"

25. "IF EVER I LOSE YOU"
©1981 BY PETER C. ANSLEY
IT ISN'T LIKE I'D NEVER SAID THE WORDS BEFORE,
WHEN I SAID 'I LOVE YOU'.
AND IT ISN'T LIKE I DIDN'T THINK THERE'D BE ONE MORE,
WHEN I FIRST MET YOU.
BUT IN TIME THIS OLD HEART TOLD ME
JUST HOW MUCH I DEPEND ON YOU.
I THINK THAT I'D BE REALLY LOST THIS TIME,
IF EVER I LOSE YOU.
ALL THE FACES THAT I DID ADORE
ACTORS ALL AND LIFE MY STAGE.
WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME UP THEY KNEW ME NOT.
THE CURTAIN MARKED OUR SEPARATE WAYS.
BUT IN TIME THIS OLD HEART TOLD ME
JUST HOW MUCH I DEPEND ON YOU.
I THINK THAT I'D BE REALLY LOST THIS TIME,
IF EVER I LOSE YOU.
JUST IN TIME THIS OLD HEART SHOWED ME
JUST HOW MUCH I REALLY NEEDED YOU.
AND I KNOW THAT I'D BE REALLY LOST THIS TIME
IF EVER I LOSE YOU.

26. "Sleepy Angel"
1981 by Peter C. Ansley
(A special moment in Miami with light coming through the window early one morning )
I watch you in the early morning's golden glow.
You sleep so softly neath the covers there
and I'm listening to the rythm of your quiet breath
like you just came to life
and I was in the middle of the miracle.
I want to reach across and touch but so afraid
you might not be as real as you seem
and I don't want anyone to awaken me if it's just a dream.
I'd rather die and just lie here for eternity
So lie a little longer sleepy angel.
Don't try to rise just lie there next to me
and if by chance you find you should be leaving,
I pray you'll come again and dream with me.

27. Another Lonesome Love Song
(1977, 2011 by Peter C. Ansley)
The sun came up this morning.
There's nothing new 'bout this new day.
Don't ask me why.
It just always seems that way.
It's been so long since bird were singing.
They just grabbed the wind and flew away.
Don't ask me why.
It just always seems that way.
And I'm here singing my songs
to chase my blues away.
Just another lonesome love song
for another lonely day
You know I still cry when I think about you.
When you left, you know, I can't forget that day.
Don't ask me why.
It will always be that way.
And I'm here singing my songs
to chase my blues away.
Don't ask me why.
It's just always been that way.

28. "Evermore"
By Peter C. Ansley 1984
Every time I see you I just smile.
because I'm knowing how you feel
And how good it is just to see you.
Every time you talk to me I hear
Thinking how lucky I must be
Just to be able to listen to you.
There are words I can imagine
But they seem so far away
From the feeling that comes over me
and holds me every day.
Like the sunrise in the morning
It's the love I can depend on ever more
Every morning you rise while I sleep
still dreaming how it used to be
remembering how it hurt
those days before you.
And every day you wake me with a gentle kiss
I think how lucky I must be
And how sweet it is
Just to be with you.

Eternamente ("Evermore " portuguese version)
por Peter C. Ansley
Toda vez que eu te vejo
eu só sorrio,
porque eu sei como você se sente
e quanto bom é
só para ter você.
Toda vez que você fala comigo
eu ouço,
pensando quanta sorte eu devo ser,
só para ouvir você.
Há palavras
que eu posso imaginar
mas parecem tão longe
do sentimento
e da experiência
que me segura a cada dia.
Como o nascer
do sol da manhã,
é o seu amor no que eu posso depender
eternamente.
Todas as manhãs você se levanta
enquanto eu durmo.
Eu ainda sonho de como era,
recordando como doía,
naqueles dias antes de voce.
E cada dia você me desperta
com um beijo gentil
Eu acho quanto a sorte eu sou
e quão doce é,
só para estar com você.

29. "Out Standing in the Rain"
1977, 2011 by Peter C. Ansley
You say that you have had your fill
and can't believe in lovers anymore
I know that you won't even try.
Cause you have given so much away
and nobody ever came to stay
and I confess even I don't understand why
The scars run deep; it's hard to forget.
I won't ask you to do what you don't feel.
So don't force yourself to fall for me.
Because I've had my ups and downs,
though I always cane back around
and learned to believe that promises can be real.
One drop of water doesn't change the ocean.
One soured love shouldn't turn a heart to stone
I know, you say stones feel no pain.
But they never really lived at all,
left to lie just where they fall,
and always left out standing in the rain.
Don't leave yourself out standing in the rain.

30. FROZEN TEARS, 1977 by Pete Ansley
Sleet, rain, cold dark city streets,
an emptiness inside I never had
when you were with me.
Chill, wind, silent lonely nights,
the absence of a feeling that I had
when you were with me.
All my world was warm and the sun would shine on me
How I wish that I could talk to you again
You could melt away my frozen tears

31. "Accept Me" 1977 by Pete Ansley
If only you knew just how much my heart has grown
with every beat it takes it wants you to come home
And I can't revealing every time I speak of love
that its you my eyes are watching
and it's you I'm speaking of.
Accept me, accept me
take me for what I am
I'm not much but I'm all I can be
just love me
give me room to grow
give me time to show
try to love me.
and if only you knew
just how much that I have changed
ever since you left, how could I be the same?
Never knowin if you love me or knowing if you will
if you find I cross your mind
you'll hear me singing still.

32. "Skip Dancing"
Words by Peter C. Ansley, Music by Timothy J. Terrier
When I was young I used to go dancing
We danced the night away
and later on we'd go romancing
romance to another day
Baby baby can't you see
you're the only girl for me.
Oh darlin' don't ever let me go.
no, no, no, no.
The days are gone when I was dreamin'
I dreamed my life away.
Things are never what they seem and
there always was a price to pay.
But baby, baby when I found you
I could tell by all the things you do,
oh darlin, I'd never let you go.
no, no, no, no.
Now I can take it,
don't need to fake it
when I'm with someone like you.
I can do it
like nothing to it.
I love it when you do it too.
If I had just one more day for living.
I'd spend the day with you.
But I know there's no forgiving
for all the crazy things I'd do.
But baby, baby I hope you agree.
The only one for you is me.
Oh darlin' don't ever let me go.
no, no, no, no.
Never let me go.
Do you want to dance and then make romance?
If it's all the same, let's just skip dancin
n start romancin

33. "Debatin with the Blues"
by Pete Ansley
Empty my coffee cup,
tie the laces on my shoes,
pick up my car keys,
a copy of the morning news.
I open the door. I'm steppin out.
blinkin my eyes, I look about
Catchin the blues, catchin the blues
Walking down the sidewalk
walking cross my new front yard
Time clock is hungry,
gotta feed it with my card.
Crank the engine off and runnin
Feel the wheels as they go hummin
catchin the blues, catchin the blues
Let the rain fall,
fall fall, fall all day.
I doesnt really matter
cause I gotta be on my way.
My work is waiting
there's no point debating with the blues
and I'm through debating with the blues

34. "Rock Bottom Blues"
by Peter Ansley
Your mind's in a daze.
You're wondering why.
You're seeing a haze
in front of your eyes
'cause you hit rock bottom again.
You hit rock bottom again.
You gave it your best
but put your dreams to rest
because I know where you've been.
You hit rock bottom again.
You put on your shoes
and wiggle your toes.
You're singing the blues
and scratching your nose.
'cause you hit rock bottom again.
You hit rock bottom again.
You gave it your best
but put your dreams to rest
because I know where you've been.
You hit rock bottom again.
So pull out your muscle
put your nose to the wheel.
Work till you're blue.
I know how it feels
when you hit rock bottom again.
You hit rock bottom again.
You gave it your best
but put your dreams to rest
because I know where you've been.
You hit rock bottom again.

35. Hard Times by Peter Ansley
( a little piano ditty from late 70s)
Hard times never pass us by.
Do they love?
Just when things start looking up
something comes around
and tears them all down again.
Hard times,
just when there's not enough heart
to go on anymore,
we rise above again
and we begin starting over.

36. "Jane"
by Peter Ansley
It was a warm summer night
when you came across my eyes.
I remember.
But it grew cold and we were lonely
when I moved so far away
in September.
Because the best thing was the company
you gave to me
and how we let it grow.
And it didn't take too long to see
the memory
was all I'd ever know.
We made each other promises.
I'm sure we meant to keep them
at the time.
But far apart and being lonely
we soon forgot we ever
said the lines.
Because the best thing was the company
you gave to me
and how we let it grow.
And it didn't take too long to see
the memory
was all I'd ever know.
And when it got too hard
you chose to let it go.
I will live to regret
I ever loved you so.

37. The Melancholy Man
by Peter C. Ansley
Tossing sticks in the water
a face is on my mind.
I see my own reflection
but I wonder is it really mine.
Nothing seems to matter
or I just don't seem to care
and I walk away from the river
try to leave the hurt I knew there.
I think the nightmare's over now;
it takes a long long time
to forget about somebody
who was always on my mind.
Now that she's forgotten
I hope it's safe to say
that the melancholy man I knew
was left back there today.
I guess I'm not an easy one
to try to understand.
It' hard to show the things you know
That bring you down again.
Now that she's forgotten
I hope it's safe to say
that the melancholy man I knew
was left back there today.

38. "At Twilight"
by Peter C. Ansley
See the couple walking hand in hand,
barefoot sands, waiting for the night
The sun sinks in a slowly melting sky,
the ocean sighs, at twilight.
And it's hard for words to say
how it feels out here today,
the colors of the sky,
and how my heart cries
at twilight.
The waves come in and kiss the shore
they say goodbye, come back for more.
If your lips came back to mine,
I'd say goodbye no more times.
And it's hard for words to say
how it feels out here today,
the colors of the sky,
and how my heart cries
at twilight.
How can lovely feel so lonely?
Lord, it's beautiful but my eyes see her only.
And it's hard for words to say
how it feels out here today,
the colors of the sky,
and how my heart cries
at twilight."

39. "What Else Can I Do"
1974 words by Peter C. Ansley, Music by Tim J. Terrier
( One of the first. I think I wrote the words before I could play guitar, so Tim Terrier penned the tune. Recorded at United Music World in 1978 With Johnny Hendren and Tim. Contains a few dozen metaphors. )

And though it happened long ago, I still feel the pain inside.
I try to forget the details and I've tried to let it ride.
You should have seen me way back when my heart was not in two.
I close my eyes and wipe the tears.
What else can I do?
To be a man divided
by pleasure and by pain.
It always seems to be
the bad that reigns
It always seems
what hurts you most
is that you tried your best.
Many plans I carried out
but she destroyed the rest.
My heart cannot be mended;
My empire falls away.
The walls are closing in on me;
I can't take another day.
Though it happened long ago
the hurt still holds me near.
The present seems to fade away;
the future isn't clear.
I worked so hard to earn her love
I just don't understand.
I close my eyes and wipe the tears;
I'll push on, if I can
I close my eyes and wipe the tears.
What else can I do?

40. A Thousand Times
by Peter C. Ansley
Must take it with you when you go
cause when you're gone the sun won't shine.
But there's no crying when you go
cause I've been in the dark
a thousand times.
Once in a while we all feel low
and we don't feel we're worth a dime.
But there's no crying when you go
cause I've been down a thousand times.
I ain't sayin' that I don't care.
I followed your love everywhere
but I just can't go chasing anymore.
Every chase just left me tired.
You never set my heart on fire
and it isn't like you never left before.
If no tears flow you must forgive me
but I've played this game before.
And if you leave long as you live
you must know
I won't chase you anymore.

41. My Melodie
by Peter C. Ansley
Melodie, how your name would fill my head
with thoughts of things you said
at those happy times.
Melodie, how I loved your pretty smile
it saved me for a while
from my written lines.
But it's just as if I'm cursed
to lopv eyou only with a pen.
Until I tell you how things are
I'm bound to write again
of how I feel for you.
Now Melodie I find myself alone again
with some paper and a pen
in the silence of my room.
Melodie, if you were here with me
things that would come to be
would lift this shade of gloom
of my empty room.

46. "Boomerang"
by Peter C. Ansley
I love you so much that you leave me.
I hate you so much you come back.
If you could decide
the train that you'll ride
we might never have been off the track.
Whenever I want you, you go off
to look for yourself in some place.
As soon as your gone
And I'm getting along
A knock on the door, there's your face.
I'd jump off a cliff but you'd help me
then you'd cry and moan dressed in black.
If staying alive
will screw up your life,
I hope I just keep coming back.

47. "Humorous Ballad of Misty Sundae"
by Peter Ansley
Misty at the Dairy Bar, she was round and sweet
Till she waited on Andy, Susan, and Uncle Pete.
Misty was a waitress, not ridiculously huge
but a light name like "mist"? More like a "deluge".
Pete got a booth, ordered hot fudge cake.
The seconds ticked slow after a 20 minute wait.
A half hour went by, Pete waiting for his order
complained that Misty had run for the border.
Misty,
Pete's waiting on a sundae.
Misty,
is wasn't such a fun day.
Misty bring our food on time
or your tip will not be worth a dime.
Pete was gettin antsy for his nephew and his neice.
He had taken them for ice cream, trying to please.
Now the good times were in jeopardy, a melting dream
of good times with family just digging ice cream.
We called another waitress who said, "maybe she's on break."
Pete said, "Eat before us? There must be some mistake."
We called another waitress, that waitress didn't know.
So we called for the manager, "where did Misty go?"
Misty,
missing on a Sunday.
Misty,
wasn't such a fun day.
Misty has just disappeared,
that no one knew we thought was weird.
Pete did the suffering children bit,
"How long must starving Andy and Susan sit?"
"Misty slipped on ice cream and fell in the kitchen,"
the manager said, "she took an ambulance to Mission."
"She slipped on a sundae?" Uncle Pete asked
"You don't have shoes for that?" Andy and Susan laughed
The manager said. "I'll take your order anew."
Pete said, "It won't be ice cream
because it's killing your crew !"
Misty.
She slipped on a sundae.
Misty.
It wasn't such a fun day.
Misty has a broken leg.
We hope she doesnt need a peg.
Not that we don't care,
not that we are mean,
but we hope she didn't fall
on our ice cream.
(Comment by Suzy Stanton McCarver
Ahh yes...the deluge of Misty!! That was the worst looking sundae I've ever seen wonder if she got workers comp for that?)

"A TASTE OF LOVE"
by Peter Ansley
MY FIRST TASTE OF LOVE WAS YOUNG AND STRONG
FAST AND INTENSE AND IT DIDN'T LAST LONG
THE LOVE NO ONE KNOWS. THE LOVE THAT'S AFRAID
IT WAS THE FIRST KIND OF LOVE THAT I MADE.
MY NEXT TASTE OF LOVE WAS SWEET FOR A WHILE
LIKE THE SIDE ROAD YOU TOOK, BEAUTY, MILE AFTER MILE.
THEN YOU LOSE YOUR DIRECTION. YOU HAVE TO SLOW DOWN
YOU REACH A DEAD END AND YOU CAN'T TURN AROUND.
WHAT DID I KNOW?
HOW COULD I SEE?
WHEN I THOUGHT THAT MY HEART
WOULD LOOK OUT FOR ME.
FALL DOWN LIKE A CHILD
YOU SKIN UP YOUR KNEES
AND YOU THINK COUNTING TEARS
IS ALL THAT LOVE MEANS.
THE BEST TASTE OF LOVE, THE LAST THAT I FOUND
DIDN'T ADVERTISE MUCH, WHEN IT CAME AROUND.
IT'S STEADY AND STRONG, IT'S WORDS GENTLE AND SWEET
THE BEST WORDS OF LOVE ARE THE ONES I BELIEVE
-------------------
----------------------------------------------------------
Ansley Music
Every night
I sleep 'neath the light
of a thousand different stars in seas of blue.
Every night I find my delight
in a thousand different dreams all about you.
_____________________________________
(a non song. jut an attempt to catch a sound I heard in the evening as the breeze blew through the trees.)
To the soft sound
of brushing leaves
that stroke the nightimes' gentle wind
as the softness
of the darkness
settles the sheets around you.
As you quietly exhale the breath
that begins your restful sleep,
dream of where your heart would go
if it were to ride upon
those gentle breezes of the night
and what rewards await the soul
freed of anger, and hurt, and fight,
the joyous greeting of daylight
all surrendered to
these gentle breezes of the night
May they give you peace tonight.

The Dance
We were old then young in a high schooler's dream
of flirt and pretend, we would twirl to the brink,
with music and dance, close bodies in motion
then pause, separated, resisting emotion.
What dreams in your head and what was in mine
not matching what would be, no signal, no sign.
Social drink amplified the rhythmic spell
of Disco and Hip Hop not blended that well.
Some would keep moving when the set was over;
some stumbled, some lingered in search of a lover.
Boomerang friends came to chat then wandered
only to come back and chat a bit longer.
The bar ran dry and the doors were closed
You sat to take a photo of someone close,
You laid back cross my arms in a playful surprise.
I smelled your hair and you smiled in my eyes.
The evening was ending, reality loomed
In separate directions, "let's do this again, soon."
